Bojangles Creative Writing

Bojangles Music School now offers creative writing classes! We’ve launched programs for students of all ages, held weekly at Bojangles Heights. Courses begin in September 2024.

The addition of writing classes is a natural step for the Bojangles family.

Our founder Shawn Parks’ wife, Elisabeth Carroll Parks, has worked as a published writer and editor for the past two decades, and has mentored other writers along the way.

Creative writing courses at Bojangles Music School will embrace the same attitude as our award-winning music classes: An emphasis on fundamentals and finding the joy in creating underscores everything we do. We also believe art is primarily for its maker. To put it another way: Art has universal value derived from the making of it––not in its audience reception or perceived perfection. That doesn’t mean we won’t strive to make something great. It just means we immediately gain so much as soon as we try.

Bojangles Creative Writing will call on brilliant friends for expertise, too. Top songwriters will step in to help teach classes on poetry, while other premier Houston authors and journalists will serve as guest lecturers.
